Night ride to County Clare 07/06/2010
Left Dublin about 8pm and made the 143mile journey by 530am. It went well. I managed to stay awake and I had plenty of energy the whole way. Thanks to Liam and Louise for taking it in turn to ride with me and drive the follow car. And of course to Sarah for forcing me to eat sambos. It's a very interesting experience starting riding at sunset, going through the night and finishing up as the sun rises. I'm looking forward to the next night ride. Wicklow 200 07/06/2010
Well I must say I found it tough. I started out feeling pretty tired and the fog, wind and rain on the Sally Gap first thing did not help. Over the next seven hours I managed to get over the next two major climbs and finish the course. Then the pain really started. Myself and Chris had to cycle in the N11 with a head wind and lashing rain, adding a further 30km to the day. Nice! I went back and did 150km of the 200km route the next week taking in all three of the big climbs. I found it much easier and did it in five hours. The first week I did not look after myself the day before the ride and did not eat nearly enough. There is a lot more to this whole training thing than putting in the miles.
